Uche Aneke, Abuja
Former British Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Tony Blair has said that all leaders who desire to develop their nations must set their priorities right and be focused on what they want to achieve.
Mr Blair, who runs the African Governance Initiative, and working with the Elumelu Foundation, was speaking during an audience with President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Wednesday.
Leadership principle
He said: “there is a gap between vision and reality, and leaders must know how to do whatever they set out to do, giving the reality of their situations. Knowing what to do is not hard.”
Mr Blair, who promised to share his experience, said all leaders must recognize the importance of proper and efficient scheduling of their engagements, in order to make maximum use of the limited time available for governance.
He described President Jonathan as a focused leader who is determined to getting the right things done in Nigeria and expressed optimism that the Nigerian President would do well as a president in the next four years.
He said that Nigeria as a country had all the potentials of greatness and that the citizens look up to President Jonathan to take the country to greater heights.
He identified the improvement of the infrastructures, Agricultural growth and achieving stability in the power sector as major priority areas of President Jonathan’s new administration.
Fostering global peace
President Jonathan said Nigeria was committed to global peace, and would continue to support any efforts at peace and development.
He welcomed Mr Blair’s collaboration with the Elumelu Foundation, adding that Africa would benefit from the former British Prime Minister’s experience and efforts.
