Government Releases N1 Billion For Food Security
The Nigerian government has released one billion Naira for the implementation of the National Programme for Food Security, (NPFS).
The NPFS National Coordinator, Alhaji Bukar Tijani, said that the amount was appropriated in the 2010 budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Tijani said that the money had been transferred to all the states and Federal Capital Territory that had complied with a directive to open domiciliary accounts for the programme.
He said that more than seventy thousand beneficiaries were being targeted directly and seven hundred and sixty-five thousand beneficiaries through the outreach programme.
Tijani said that the programme was being implemented in 327 local government areas.
According to the coordinator, the programme has recorded success in production enhancement and diversification as well as encouraging emphasis towards supporting small producers.
