Nigeria Assures The World Of Openness

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured members of the international community of openness, accountability and inclusiveness as Nigeria experiences the most critical level of its planned general election.

The President told members of the Diplomatic Corps, at cocktail party in Abuja , that the government would strive towards the enthronement of the highest standards of democratic conduct and practice.

President Jonathan stressed that the ongoing voters' registration update is a major preoccupation to ensure smooth elections in April. He said it was aimed at ensuring that the scheduled general election will be free, fair and credible as well as one in which every vote would count.

The Nigerian leader gave assurances to the world that all reported threats to peace in some parts of the country would be addressed.

He also sought the cooperation of world leaders in maintaining a united position on Ivory Coast 's political impasse.

President Jonathan said the priority of Nigeria remains the early resolution of the crisis within the context of ECOWAS' principled stand against impunity, adding that citizens have the rights to freely choose their leaders.
