International Pre-Polls Assessment Begins
Golfa Francis, Abuja

An international pre-election assessment delegation in Nigeria has paid visits to the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the National Assembly, as part of its four-day mission.

The visit was aimed at assessing how prepared Nigeria is in terms of logistics and the overall political environment for the forth coming elections in
April.

Commitment to change
The former President of Ghana , Mr. John Kuffour, who is leading the delegation from the US based International Republican Institute , IRI, commended Nigerians for their commitment to effect change, through free and fair elections in April.

The ACN presidential flag bearer, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu criticised the use of public funds for campaigns by incumbent candidates.

He said the current development, which he described as illegal, had given undue advantage to the ruling party Peoples Democratic Party , PDP.

According to him, the trend should be nipped in the bud.

Monitoring initiative

The International Republican Institute has embarked on capacity development for the Nigerian media and monitoring initiative, in collaboration with the International Press Center , IPC, Lagos , towards the success of the April polls.

It has also commissioned media experts in the UK and Nigeria to update a news website - www.iwprnews.org for the elections.
