Nigeria And Switzerland Sign Agreement On Migration
Nigeria and Switzerland have signed an agreement on migration, the first between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia and the Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Justice and Police, Mr. Simonetta Sommaru, signed the deal.
A statement by the Nigerian Embassy in Berne , Switzerland said the agreement provides for building capacity on immigration, migration, development services, promotion and protection of human rights.
It will also cater to returnee assistance, readmission and reintegration assistance, prevention of illegal migration as well as fighting human and drugs trafficking.
Comprehensive
The statement said the agreement reflected a comprehensive and global approach to dealing with matters of migration.
The two countries also discussed stepping up trade and investment, confiscating and recovering illicit assets and promotion of peace and security in Africa .
A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to hold in Abuja , in March.
