The Nigerian Inspector General of police, Mr Hafiz Ringim has warned Commissioners of police against involvement in partisan politics ahead of the 2011 elections in Nigeria.
Ringim gave the warning in Abuja while decorating thirty-two newly promoted Commissioners of police and the new Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Olusola Amore who became a deputy Commissioner of Police.
He said with the approaching elections, Police Commissioner's must refrain from politics to enable all aspirants and candidates have a level playing field.
The Inspector General of Police said though the commissioners would be centre of attraction like other law enforcement agencies but they need to prove that they are capable and competent in fighting crime in all ramifications.
Ringim, while congratulating the commissioners, however pointed out that promotion in the Force was “privilege and not a right”
