Nigeria Has Capacity To Tackle Food Crisis
– Okonjo-Iweala
Nigeria’s
Former Finance Minister, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala has said that
the nation’s Government has the capacity and propensity
to tackle the current food crisis that has generated a lot of
concern around the world.
Iweala who is currently a
Managing Director with the World Bank Group spoke in Oguashi-Uku,
Delta State, Southern Nigeria, saying that there was no need for
Nigerians to panic because the country has not utilized forty
percent of its arable land that can be cultivated for
agriculture.
She urged the Government to
partner the United Nations and World Bank for assistance in
realizing this objective. Okonjo-Iweala said she was in
support of the initiatives of the National Assembly in probing
the various sector of the economy if that will bring in the
desired sanity into the system.
She said “The probe is okay ,
if some one wants to find out the truth , let us find out the
truth , there is no problem , but the bottom line is that , we
should also look at the technical reasons , why we do not have
power and deliver power to the people.”
