Budgets Over N65 Billion For 2010

Governor
Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has presented an appropriation
bill of 67.8 billion naira to the Enugu state house of assembly.
The appropriation bill, which represents a 12 percent increase
over 2009 budget, is made up of a recurrent expenditure of 30.1
billion and 37.8 billion as capital expenditure.
Presenting the bill on Wednesday in Enugu, Governor Chime said
that the capital expenditure is higher than the recurrent so
that government would be able to complete all ongoing capital
projects.
Priority areas
The 2010 budget bill of ‘strategic adjustment’ objectives is
to complete ongoing projects and to commence other priority ones
that will impact positively on the people.
He enumerated the six policy thrust of the 2010 budget to
include consolidating on the gains of last year’s budget,
completion of on-going projects and increased private sector
involvement in the development of the state.
Others include massive provision of social and economic
infrastructure in rural and urban areas, diversification and
intensification of resources and revenue base and effective
collaboration with other tiers of government for effective
service delivery.
Largest chunk
In sectoral allocation, the ministry of works and
infrastructure got the highest allocation of 12.65 billion
Naira, which represents 33.5 percent of the budget.
“This is with a view to providing accessibility and mobility in
both the urban and rural areas to enhance the rapid
socio-economic transformation of the state” Chime said.
Agricultural sector was allocated 992 million Naira while state
Agricultural Development Agency received an allocation of 234.2
million Naira, which is to assist it meet up with obligations to
agricultural extension farmers.
