Militant Leader Surrenders Ahead Of Amnesty Package
One
of the militant leaders in Nigeria’s Niger Delta
region, Solo, Alias Osama Bin Laden, has offered to
surrender his weapon to the Nigerian government on
Friday.
Solo made this offer through his solicitor when the
representatives of some militant leaders met with
the Minister of Interior, Retired Major General
Godwin Abe and the Inspector General of Police Mike
Okiro in Portharcourt.
Okiro urged the militants to embrace the amnesty
offered by President Umaru Yar Adua, leave the
creeks, surrender their weapons and get
rehabilitated.
He debunked insinuations that foreign oil companies
operating in the country persuaded the President to
make the amnesty offer in order to secure their
businesses.
At the end of the closed door meeting, counsel to
the five militants leaders, Ikechukwu Enekweizu,
said they were convinced that government was sincere
with the amnesty offer.
President Yar Adua is expected to announce amnesty
package on Thursday.
