The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, Alhaji Jibrin Paiko, said in Abuja in an interview, that the mass literacy programme fund would enhance advocacy to local government chairmen, governors, traditional rulers, opinion leaders and commissioners of education in all states.

The executive secretary called on the state governments to promptly pay facilitators of the mass literacy and adult education programmes to ensure qualitative mass literacy programme.

He also called on NGOs, stakeholders and individuals to contribute to the development of mass literacy and non-formal education.

Child beggars

Paiko expressed optimism that the integrated Koranic plan, set up as part of the mass literacy programme would reduce the menace of almajiris (children beggars), especially in northern Nigeria.
