New Senior Legal
Advocates Named
The
Supreme Court of Nigeria has announced the names of 19 lawyers,
including two academics, promoted to the rank of Senior Advocate
of Nigeria (SAN).
The appointment was made by the Legal Practitioners Privileges
Committee, headed by Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, the Chief
Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The approved appointees are: Nella Andem-Ewa, Joseph Nwobika,
Effiong Offiong, Mike Ozekhome, Sylvia Shinaba, Dorothy Ufot,
Francis Dike, Chukwuma Ekomaru, Arthur Okafor and Etigwe Owa.
The others are: Jadegoke Badejo, Abidun Layonu, Adekunle Ogunba,
George Oguntade, Toyin Pinheiro, Olusina Sofola and Samuel
Mosugu.
A total of 107 legal practitioners had applied to be
conferred with the enviable rank of SAN.
Andrew Chukwuemerie and Fabian Ajogwu were the successful
candidates from among the 19 persons, who applied for the honour
from the universities.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new SANs by the CJN and Chairman
of the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee would be held on
April 12th.
The application forms for expression of interest for promotion
to the rank of SAN would be released next week. Legal
practitioners and academics with not less than 10 years
experience are eligible to apply.
