Lawmakers Reconvenes
Tuesday
The
House of Representatives has said it would debate President
Umaru Yar'Adua’s continuous absence from the country on health
grounds and take a decision when it reconvenes on January 12th.
Mr. Ita Enang, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on
Rules and Business, told newsmen on Friday, in Abuja that the
House would not discuss the state of health of the President,
but ‘his indisposition to carry on with his duties’.
’’We will discuss and take a decision. We are not going to
discuss his state of health,’’ he said.
Enang also decried the controversy over the signing of the
supplementary budget in Saudi Arabia by Yar'Adua, and urged
Nigerians to desist from peddling rumours capable of derailing
the country's democracy.
Enang confirmed that the President had a telephone conversion
with the Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, as earlier announced on
Wednesday by Professor Dora Akunyili, the Information and
Communications Minister, after the weekly Federal Executive
Council meeting.
He said the House would also commence debate on the constitution
amendment bill, and receive the report of its ad hoc committee
on the review of the 1999 Constitution. He said he expected the
lawmakers to receive eight reports between Tuesday and
Wednesday.
