Lagos Pledges Job Opportunities
The
lagos State government has promised to create job opportunities
for the indigenes and to ensure that workers are adequately
remunerated.
Delivering his speech on the anniversary of May Day
Celebration at Onikan Stadium, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola
said part of his agenda was to create job opportunities, which
had led to embarking on so many projects, including
beautification of the state that has given employment to many,
including "area boys."
Fashola promised that his government would not
renege on the promise to implement its agenda for the people of
the state to ensure good living standards for everyone.
He expressed appreciation for the efforts of
various workers in the state, hinging the progress of his
administration on their various contributions.
In his speech at the May Day anniversary, the
Minister for Labour, Dr. Hassan Mohammed appealed to workers to
renew their commitment to their jobs to enhance economic
development and progress of the nation.
In his speech, Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of
the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Michael Alogba
Olukoya, lamented the soaring level of basic food prices, which
he said called for a radical return to commercial farming, with
a package of incentives to stimulate domestic production because
food insecurity is the greatest threat to national insecurity.
He lamented that 48 years after independence, the
world's sixth largest producer of petroleum could neither afford
decent shelter for her citizens nor free education for her
leaders of tomorrow while unemployment and underemployment are a
threat to the youths, leading to restiveness and undesirable
practices.
He commended the efforts of the Lagos State to
tackle the situation, saying Fashola has started on a good
footing.
