Championship Holds In Lagos
Ten
states including the Federal Capital Territory are participating
in the maiden two-day National Open Kickboxing Championships in
Lagos.
An official of the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria, Chimezie
Asiegbu said the states are Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Niger and the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Others are Bayelsa, Edo, Nasarawa, Anambra and Lagos.
’’We are expecting more states to turn up as we want to use the
championship to discover talents from the 36 states of the
federation,’’ he said.
He said the competition would feature seven events – full
contact, semi-contact, low kick, light contact, mixed martial
art, K-One and musical forms.
’’This is the first time that different aspects of kickboxing
will be featured at any national championships,…outstanding
athletes from this competition will be selected and prepared for
future international competitions,’’ he said.
A refresher course for referees, which began on Tuesday and
ended on Wednesday, preceded the tournament.
The course was to acquaint the technical officials with the
latest developments in the sport to enable impartial officiating
at the championship.
