Perpetrators To Face Prosecution - VP
Nigeria’s
Vice President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated government’s
commitment to prosecute persons linked with the violence in
Northern Jos city that claimed hundreds of lives and millions of
Naira worth of property.
The Vice President, speaking at the Police Staff Collage in Jos
after inspecting the crisis affected areas, said that all
perpetrators would be made to face the full weight of the law.
Vice President Jonathan directed the police authorities to carry
out an exhaustive investigation, to ensure that all those who
played a part in the murder, inflicting of injury and
destruction of property in several areas of Jos, in the days of
the violence, are prosecuted.
In his words, ’’We decided to see things for ourselves in
Plateau state and urge the police to continue investigations so
that anyone linked to the crisis, no matter how remotely should
be prosecuted.’’
The Vice President emphasised that there will be no biases.
He urged the people of Plateau state to pursue peace and good
neighbourliness, stressing that such violence as witnessed in
Jos, affects both the communal and national local economy.
The Vice President thanked the army, security agencies, NGOs and
the National Emergency Management Agency, for their timely role
in curtailing the crisis.
The Plateau state governor, Chief Jonah Jang, expressed deep
gratitude to the Vice President for the visit, saying the
nationwide broadcast prior to the trip, helped to douse the
tensed situation at the crisis period.
Chief Jang regretted the resurgence of the violence and pledged
that the state government would re-double efforts to ensure it
does not occur again.
