To Fuel Supply - FEC

The
Nigerian government has re-stated its commitment to end the fuel
scarcity being experienced in major cities across the country.
The Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora
Akunyili, said at the end of the weekly Federal Executive
Council meeting in Abuja, that government had identified the
serious impediments against adequate fuel supply, panic buying
and hoarding of petroleum products by oil marketers.
Consequently, Professor Akunyili said Vice President Good-Luck
Jonathan has directed the Ministers of Petroleum Resources and
Power not to proceed on Christmas break, to enable government
resolve the fuel shortages problem.
The fuel scarcity has been on for over three weeks in major
cities of Nigeria and the response by the government now was as
a result of the pressure of the festive season.
The weekly council meeting also approved a contract for the
extension of the inner South Express Way that would reduce
traffic congestions in the southern part of Abuja.
The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammed Adamu Aliero said the project
will decongest the Abuja–Keffi express way through the Kuje–Apo
access.
The meeting also approved the purchase of 49 Ambulances
for 12 states, to track maternal mortality rate, in line
with the MDG objectives. It approved the purchase of 250,000
packs of Anti-retroviral drugs for HIV/AIDS patients to halt the
spread of the disease in Nigeria.
