Independence

The
Africa soccer tournament, the Nations Cup, slated
for Ghana in Year 2008 has coincided with the
country’s golden jubilee independence celebration.
Mr. George Kumi, Ghana’s High
Commissioner in Nigeria, told voice of Nigeria that
the coincidence was a “good omen for the country.”
He described the continental fiesta
as a uniting factor for the African people.
Preparations
To accentuate Ghana readiness to
successfully host the competition, Kumi said the
commemorative Mascot was ready.
This view was also echoed by Magnus
Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the Local
Organising Committee (LOC).
According
to him “the naming of the Mascot would also coincide
with the draws of the competition in order to make
the event grand and memorable.”
The
general public would be given the opportunity to
view the Mascot at the Accra International
Conference Centre on October 19th.
Ghana has won the tournament four
times, in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982.
Mr. George Kumi says he is confident
Ghana will host to win.
