The
late Nigerian legal luminary and human Rights
activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi who died two weeks
ago from lung cancer has been buried in his home
town, Ondo Southwest Nigeria.
He was buried according to Islamic rites.
Rites Of Passage
According to the Islamic injunctions, the Chief Imam
led a compulsory two rakats prayers before the
remains was be committed to mother earth.
There after, the Muslim cleric conducted a few
minutes sermon and prayed for the repose of the soul
of the deceased.
Earlier on Monday,hundreds of dignitaries from all
works of life Participated in an open air reception,
organised by the Ondo state government for the late
Gani Fawehinmi at the Akure Sports Stadium.
More than one thousand security operatives were
deployed to compliment the strength of the state
police command to ensure ordinariness.
The late Chief Gani Fawehinmi was a fearless critic
of various governments in Nigeria.
In his life time, he defended the voiceless and
served jail terms on a number of occasions.
