Enugu Fans Appeal For More Matches

loving fans in Enugu state, eastern Nigeria, one of the venues for the ongoing
U-17 world Cup, have appealed to FIFA to shift other qualifying matches to
Enugu.
Some of the fans who spoke to journalists after Wednesday’s match between Turkey
and United Arab Emirate in Enugu, said that the city had all it took for the
matches to hold.
Mr. Aka Eze Aka, a broadcaster with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria
said, ’’ Enugu is very peaceful, has great supporters and soccer friendly
government.’’
Mr. Godwin Nnamchi, a transporter who came all the way from Onitsha to watch the
match said that more matches, including the finals should be played in Enugu.
In the words of Nnamchi, ’’Enugu has the best stadium in the country and the
crime rate is very low compared to other states in the south East zone.’’
Mrs. Winnie Ilo and Patricia Ugwu, who watched the match with their children,
expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the tournament in the coal city.
’’ I came with my entire family to watch all the matches because of the peaceful
nature of the city and I want more matches played in Enugu,’’ Ilo who is wife of
the Secretary to the State Government said.
Ugwu in her remarks said, ’’The tournament afforded us the opportunity wind off
after the hard day’s job and the timing also made it possible for us to watch
the matches.’’
VON reports that seven matches in all, have been played in Enugu since the
commencement of the youth championship and the stadium was almost filled to
capacity during the games.
