Nigerians Assure Of Falcons Good Outing In China

Nigeria Football Association, NFA, has assured Nigerians that necessary support will be given to the Female national team - Super Falcons to ensure their success at this year’s Olympics football event in China.

Secretary General of the Nigerian FA, Bolaji Ojo-Oba gave this assurance in a chat with told Voice of Nigeria in Abuja.

To him, its time for the team to win laurel outside Africa.

In his words, “we are tired of being African champions, right now, we are looking beyond the continent, we are focusing on the coming Olympics, with adequate preparations, we will come back with medal this time around”.

Preparations

He said the FA was making arrangements with some Nations to play friendly games with the Super Falcons in the build up to the Beijing games.

The friendly matches would be organised with strong female soccer nations either at home or abroad.

Nigeria on Saturday secured its ticket to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing after beating Ghana 2-0 in Abuja. The goals were scored by the reigning African football queen, Cynthia Uwak, one in each half of the game.

It would be third time, the Falcons who had been winning all the
Continent tournament will be competing at the Olympics after Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 without winning any medal.










Build Up

Falcons only needed a win needed last Saturday to confirm their third successive appearance in the quadrennial games.

The Falcons finished the group with nine points, same as the Ghanaians but went through with superior goals aggregate. South Africa Banyana Banyana, the remaining team in the group had absolutely no chance of making it to Beijing.
