Ethanol
Pilot Plant To Be Established In 2010
The
National Biotechnology Development Agency says it
plans to establish an ethanol pilot plant in 2010 in
collaboration with the Obafemi Awolowo University,
Ile Ife, South West Nigeria.
The Director-General of the agency; Professor
Bamidele Solomon told newsmen in Abuja that the
pilot plant was to be established in conjunction
with the Chemical Engineering Department of the
University.
Professor Solomon said more than ten million naira
had been spent on the project with all the
components locally fabricated. He said that the
Center would be used for the training of graduates.
He said that ethanol could be produced, using
various feedstock such as sugar cane, cassava, rice,
straw, saw dust, and other woody materials.
The Professor called for the involvement of the
private sector's in the project by investing funds
and ensuring its expansion.
