Invests 2 Billion Dollars On Capacity Building In Nigeria
The
International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA in partnership with the
Nigerian Government has facilitated an investment of two billion
dollars in building capacity and upgrading cancer management
facilities in the country.
The Deal
Under the partnership, the IAEA would train Nigerian nuclear
physicists, nurses, pharmacists, technologists and
radiographers.
The Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin said the
ministry, in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, was
establishing regular age-appropriate cancer awareness campaigns
to increase public knowledge of the key risk factors.
He said that the effective means of addressing cancer was to
engage in critical and aggressive campaigns, adding that once
the disease was detected early, it would be treated at minimal
charge.
