The Nigerian President
and Chairman Of Ecowas President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua
is hosting is Ecowas Leaders in the Nigerian Capital
Abuja.
The special Ecowas Summit
is being attended by the Presidents of Ghana, Sierra
Leone, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Liberia. They
are already in Abuja for the Conference.
Others are Presidents of
Togo and Mali, while Gambia is being represented by
its Vice president.
The Nigerian President,
Umaru Yar’Adua is to preside over the summit in his
capacity as ECOWAS chairman.
The mid-year summit is
expected to consider the report of its various
committees on the implementation of ECOWAS Monetary
Policy and the proposal for a common currency.
Fifteen countries from
West Africa are members of ECOWAS, established in
1973.
