Ebonyi Conducts
Demographic Survey
The
Ebonyi state government in south eastern Nigeria has commenced a
base line and demographic survey of property, houses and
tourists areas within Abakaliki, the state capital, for
effective planning and development.
Mr. Jonah Egba, the state’s Commissioner for Lands, Survey and
Housing, said that the aim of the survey was to gather adequate
information on the number of households, tourist’s sites and
other indices that would support planning, effective revenue
generation and distribution of amenities.
The measure would also help government to manage wastes
generated from households as part of its effort to maintain a
clean environment.
’’This is also an opportunity for the government to have a data
bank through which it can plan the development of all sectors of
the economy,’’ Egba said.
Accordingly, about 150 graduates in humanities, social and
environmental sciences have been recruited to conduct the
demographic exercise which is expected to last for three months.
Mr. Egba said that the ministry was also presently supervising
the rehabilitation of 27 schools selected for the compulsory
boarding system of education in the state.
He said, ’’Government is taking this step in order to instil
moral discipline among the young ones…The state has also
established three technical colleges of education in each of
three senatorial districts of the state.’’
The technical schools would help inculcate technical education
on the young ones and develop the much needed middle manpower
development for the state.
