Darfur Rebels In Pre-Talks Deal
Several
rebel groups from Darfur are meeting in Sudan's southern city of
Juba, to reach a compromise in their negotiation with the
government.
Not less than seven rebel factions have gathered
for the meeting, in advance of peace talks due in Libya later
this month.
Representatives from the Justice and Equality
Movement and at least five representatives of different Sudan
Liberation Army factions are now in Juba for the pre-talks being
hosted by the southern government.
This offers the rebels a last chance to find a
common position ahead of the talks which are due to start on
October 27th.
Peace talks in Year 2006 in Abuja, failed to end
the four-year conflict which has led to the death of about
200,000 people and the displacement of about two million.
There are about one dozen splinter groups in
Darfur, each with its own demands and grievances.
