EU Commends Financial
Prudence Of Anambra Governor

The
European Union has commended the Governor of Anambra state,
south eastern Nigeria, Dr. Peter Obi for his financial prudence.
Coordinator of EU projects in the State, Mrs. Evelyn Mere,
described Governor Obi as a prudent manager of resources.
She also recalled a previous assessment by the World Bank, which
declared the Anambra state governor as the most fiscally
responsible governor in Nigeria.
Mrs. Mere also hailed the initiative of the government in
holding series of town hall meetings, where the government and
the people at the grass roots exchanged ideas.
Virtues
The EU Coordinator urged other state governments in Nigeria
to emulate Anambra and relate with the people.
Mrs. Mere said that state government had met all the conditions
set out by EU to earn its support. These, according to her,
include: political will to reform public finance management,
drafting of a fiscal responsibility law, which awaits passage
and willingness to pay government’s counterpart funding, among
others.
The EU coordinator was speaking at a review meeting with donor
agencies, attended by representatives of UNICEF, MDG and SEMA,
as well as the EU.
Fadama Too
Similarly, the Fadama projects in Anambra state has been chosen
as the best, most committed and result-oriented.
According to a report by the World Fadama projects in Nigeria,
the state was achieved the feat through its commitment and
support to projects.
The Anambra State Coordinator of Fadama project, Mr. Chudi
Mojekwu, said Anambra has been the only state that has fully
paid up its counterpart cash contribution for two years. This is
to the tune of over N193 million.
Mr. Mojekwu therefore, called on Fadama beneficiaries in the
state to ensure that their subproject activities were
implemented according to prescriptions of the project documents.
About fifty million naira was disbursed to Fadama farmers in the
pilot phase.
Aside from providing market information, the Anambra State
Fadama Coordinating Office (ANSFCO) also facilitates the
provision of farming technologies that would assist the farmers
add value to their products.
