Nigeria Introduces
Free Cancer Screening

The
Nigerian government has introduced a free cancer screening
programme to mark the World Cancer Day.
The Minister of Health, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin stated
this at a press conference to mark this year’s World Cancer Day.
In line with this initiative, government is set to integrate
vaccines against cervical and liver cancers into routine
National Immunization Programmed to increase knowledge of the
key risk factors.
He said many of the cancers can be prevented if the right
education and awareness is created.
More Partnership
Nigeria is also partnering with the MD Anderson Cancer
Center in the US to train specialists in palliative care and has
invested two million dollars in a partnership with the
international atomic energy agency to upgrade management
centers.
