Cameroon
Chooses Nigeria As Trade Partner
Vin Oliji, Calabar
The
Cameroonian government has expressed its commitment to make
Nigeria its major trade partner in Africa.
Minister of Trade, Mr. Luc Atangana said this at the opening of
the Cameroon Economic and Trade week in Calabar, Cross River
state, southern Nigeria.
He said the Cameroonian government’s decision was informed by
Nigeria’s patronage of goods manufactured by Yaoundé.
The trade minister explained that the purpose of the economic
trade in Nigeria was to directly introduce more Cameroonian
products to Nigeria and as well attract investors.
He commended the long social cultural relationship between
Nigeria and Cameroon and urged the two countries to strengthen
the ties by fostering economic association.
Meanwhile, ahead of the commencement of the U-17 World Cup
matches at the Calabar centre, the Nigerian police has given an
assurance of adequate security arrangements.
Mr. Tonye Ebitibituwa, a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Cross
River state, said in an interview with Voice of Nigeria, that as
part of the security arrangements, gun boats have been stationed
at all the riverine areas while armoured personnel carriers have
been deployed to strategic locations.
