Establish Breast Cancer Centre
Anambra
State government in South Eastern Nigeria has established centers for
checks and care for breast cancer.
Chief Medical Director of Amaka General
Hospital, Awka, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor, said this at a forum on productive
health, organised by IPAS International, in collaboration with
South-East Post Abortion Care Network, SE-PACNET.
Speaking on the theme: “Breasts
and Cervix”,
Ikeakor said that one out of every ten women in Nigeria suffers from
breast cancer and that early checks could lead to a cure when detected.
He explained that more people died from
cancer of the cervix than of HIV/AIDS.
The Acting Chairman of Oyi Local
Government, Mr. Peter Ofuonye, said there was need to intensify
awareness campaign amongst the people especially in the grassroot, to be
educated on family planning.
