South Africa Hosts Global Sustainability Forum

 

The second meeting of the High Level Panel on Global Sustainability is holding in Cape Town , South Africa from today, Thursday till Friday.

The panel, set up by the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, is co-chaired by South African President, Jacob Zuma and his counterpart from Finland , Tarja Harlonen.

The meeting is discussing climate change as a sustainable development challenge by addressing its three pillars namely, economic, social and environmental as well as related issues of food security, energy and poverty eradication.

The Panel consists of 21 eminent persons, including former Heads of State and Government as well as Ministers acting in their personal capacities.

The first meeting of the Panel took place in September 2010 in New York .

The panel is expected to conclude its work by the end of Year 2011.
