Kenya Trains Somali Police Force

About 192 junior and middle level officers of the Somali Police Force have commenced a special training in Kenya on Tuesday.

The training is organised by the AU Mission for Somalia (AMISOM), to support the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.

The officers and men are undergoing the refresher training by AMISOM police mentors at the Kenyan Wildlife Training School in Manyani.

A statement by the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the AU Commission in Addis Ababa said that AMISOM was mandated by the AU Commission to train, mentor and advice the Somali Police Force as well as to build it into a credible force adhering to international standards.

''The instructors will offer lessons in community policing, human rights, logistics and management to the Somali police officers. The course is designed to enhance their professionalism and skills'' , the statement said.

The Italian government is funding the training programme.
