| Coalition Urges Togo To Join ICC
The Coalition for the International Criminal Court (ICC) has called on Togo to strengthen its commitment to international justice and the rule of law by becoming a member of the court.
The call was contained in a statement issued by the coalition in Lome , the Togolese capital.
The coalition in a letter to Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe urged the administration to “make the issue of membership to the Rome Statutes of the ICC a priority.''
The Rome Statutes are the founding treaty for ICC, the first international permanent court set up to pursue those responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
The coalition also urged Gnassingbe to “make the most of the democratic process in Togo to speed up the efforts aimed at becoming a member of the Rome Statutes.''
