| Sudan- Inclusion of Human Rights Curriculum commended
A head teacher has commended the Sudanese government’s decision to include human rights in the nation’s new school curriculum.
The head of the Human Rights Commission Lawrence Korbandy confirmed government decision at a news conference.
Head teacher of St. Joseph’s Primary School, John Wani, said that the subject wiould help students know about their rights and respect other children.
According to him, as the country celebrates Child Rights Day, the subject will enhance children’s knowledge on the other human rights.
Mr. Wani revealed that his teachers had been undergoing training on the Child Rights Act to ensure that they treated pupils in a more respectful manner.
Enhancing Science Education
In a related development, education authorities in collaboration with a Japanese agency have offered training to primary school teachers to improve mathematics and sciences education across South Sudan.
The coordinator for National Strengthening for Mathematics and Education in South Sudan, Diliga Emmanuel, said that the training also expanded the horizon of the teachers and increased their skills on methods to teach other subjects easily.
He explained that the aim was not to neglect other subjects but to provide quality training and improve education in South Sudan.
Mr. Diliga revealed that the project would equally prepare school children to take up sciences in their future studies at university.
JICA, the Japanese International Cooperation agency, is supporting the project together with GoSS education ministry.
