| Rwanda Journalist Vow to Expose Corrupt Practices
One of Rwanda’s most outspoken journalists and an editor of Umuvugizi newspaper, Jean Gasasira, says he will continue to expose corruption and other criminal activities in the Country.
The exiled editor said that the Rwandan prosecutor’s request to the country’s Supreme Court to sentence him for ten years in prison would not stop him from doing his job.
Charges
Spokesman for Rwanda prosecutor's office, Alain Mukuralinda said that Gasasira was charged with spreading rumours that encouraged civil disobedience, insulted the president and deliberately violated Rwanda’s media laws.
Mukuralinda said Gasasira was taken to court because he threatened state security through the local newspaper he published.
A Kigali high court acquitted Gasasira last September on the same charges and the Supreme Court will be due to announce its verdict on May 27.
