| Un Mission Leaves North Sudan In July
Sudan authorities have said that UN peacekeepers would not be allowed in northern Sudan beyond July 9 when the South becomes independent.
Presidential adviser, Dr. Mustafa Ismai l , said in an interview that Khartoum does not intend to renew the mandate of the UN Mission in Sudan , UNMIS.
Dr. Ismail said if the SPLM wants to keep the UN peacekeepers in the South it must talk directly with the UN Security Council.
Quick force
In another development, he United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur , UNAMID is setting up a quick reaction force to protect civilians.
UNAMID Chief, Professor Ibrahim Gambari told a news conference in Khartoum that peacekeeping patrols have increased from 90 to 130 daily.
Professor Gambari said that between January 1 and February 10 over 6,000 patrols took place to deter armed violence against civilians.
He urged the government and rebels to stop hostilities in Darfur .
UNAMID said renewed fighting in January has driven about 43,000 people from their homes.
