| FIFA Launches 2010 World Cup Legacy Trust Funke Atohengbe , South Africa
The World Football governing body, FIFA, has launched the 2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust for South Africa .
The fund, amounting to 100 million US Dollars was launched by FIFA President, Sepp Blatter , in the Soccer City , Johannesburg , South Africa .
Mr. Blatter said the trust would support a wide range of public benefit initiatives in football development, education, health and humanitarian activities in South Africa .
He said out of the 100 million US Dollars, 20 million dollars had been spent on the construction of the headquarters of the South African Football Association and for the 2010 FIFA World Cup preparations .
About 80 million dollars has been allocated directly to social and community projects. The projects will support football, education and other programmes on health care or humanitarian activities in several communities.
Memorable legacy
South African President, Jacob Zuma, described the project as an exercise that would help raise the standard of education, youth development along with improving the standard of soccer.
He said government would devote attention to the development of sports in the rural areas in its plan to implement projects specified in the FIFA 2010 World Cup Trust Fund for South Africa .
The trust is the latest piece in the world football governing body's 2010 FIFA World Cup related legacy activities for South Africa and the African continent.
It is also a reward for South Africa for being a great host of the tournament, which has been described as the best FIFA World Cup since inception.
