| Arab League urges Legal solution on Abyei
The Arab League (AL) has urged the NCP and SPLM to contain the Abyei issue and resort to the legal references.
Sudan News Agency,SUNA quoted AL envoy to Sudan Salah Halima as saying that the AL is committed to a policy standing on supporting both north and south Sudan.
He added that the AL vision stood on the principle that the relationship between the north and the south should be based on fraternity, common interests and mutual security.
According to Halima there should also be a non-intervention in the internal affairs of each other in a manner that enhances security and stability.
He expressed hope that the tensions in Abyei would be temporary and be resolved soon.
Compromise
Meanwhile, the United Nations said that the North and south Sudan have agreed to withdraw all unauthorised forces from the contested Abyei border region, the United Nations said, in an attempt to defuse tensions in the oil-producing flashpoint.
The south, where most follow Christian and traditional beliefs, overwhelmingly voted to declare independence from the mostly Muslim north in a referendum in January.
But both sides claim Abyei and have built up forces, beyond an agreed joint north-south unit, in the remote area. Analysts say Abyei is one of the likeliest places for conflict to erupt before the south secedes on July 9.
Diplomats visiting Southern Sudan say the north and south need to compromise to resolve the status of Abyei as the south prepares for independence.
Representatives from the US, Britain and Norway called for compromise over Abyei, where clashes have left more than 100 people dead since January.
UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon says the military standoff in Abyei is unacceptable and threatens peace.
