AUB tasks African broadcasters on digital migration

The fifth General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting AUB has ended in Accra, Ghana with a call on member nations of the Union to redouble their efforts in meeting the deadline for migrating from analogue to digital broadcasting by 2015.
A communiqué issued at the end of the two day general assembly, expressed satisfaction with the work being carried out by the technical committee of the AUB in preparing member organizations on how to attain the digital status before the deadline.
The General Assembly resolved to develop a mechanism of exchanging content among its members as well as finding a rallying point for stories coming out of Africa to be seen from an African perspective.
Commendation
Members commended the move by South African Broadcasting Corporation to launch a 24-hour news channel to present the African story in an African way by the first quarter of next year and resolved to key into the initiative.
The AUB resolved to continue its partnership with FIFA but promised to press for reduction in the cost of broadcast rights for all major sporting events across the world.
Twenty three members out of forty-four-member organization attended the Assembly.
The next meeting of the AUB will hold in November 2012 in Maputo, Mozambique.
