Rebbeca Muazu, Abuja
The African Union has welcomed resumption of the talks between the Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement ( SPLM) and National Congress Party ( NCP).
The meeting was held in Khartoum between President Omar al-Bashir and President Salva Kiir, under auspices of the head of the AU panel on Sudan, Thambo Mbeki.
The AU Commission Chairman, Jean Ping, urged the parties to stick to work in the same method and to coordinate with the AU high-level mechanism concerning implementation of all the items of the CPA especially the final solution of Abyei issue.
peacekeeping along border
Meanwhile, the SPLM secretary-general, Pagan Amum said he is asking the UN Security Council to deploy a peacekeeping force along the border that will divide North and South Sudan.
Amum said at the sidelines of a UN council meeting that request by representatives of humanitarian groups active in South Sudan is very imperative because violence has overshadowed a peaceful independence referendum the south held in January.
he repeated allegations that the Khartoum government is funding militias in an attempt to destabilize South Sudan before independence.
