President Sets Up Advisory Council

Nigerian’s
Acting President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan set up a Presidential
Advisory council to provide alternative inputs into policy
formation, promote good governance in the areas of power,
economy, security, infrastructure, social sector, the electoral
process, and the fight against corruption, among others.
According to the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Acting
President Mr.Ima Niboro, the 26 member council will be chaired
by General Theophilus Danjuma,(rtd) former Minister of Defence
while elder Statesman and constitutional lawyer, Professor Ben
Nwabueze, will serve as Deputy Chairman.
The Task
The Council which will be inaugurated on Thursday is expected to
also evaluate policy implementation and advise on areas
requiring adjustments, advise the President on how to maximize
the benefits derivable from government’s efforts, to
advise on such actions and programmes that may improve
credibility and performance of the government as well as advise
on any other matter referred to it by the President.
The Think Tank
Other members of the committee are Mr Fola Adeola, Mallam
Abubakar Gimba, Mr. Basil Omiyi, Alhaji Mohammed Dikko Yusuf,
Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Ambassador G.B. Preware, Professor
Bartholomew Nnaji, and Mr Kase Lawal.
Also included on the council are Mallam Muhammed Hayatuddeen,
Justice Alfa Belgore; Mr. Chibudom Nwuche, Mrs Mobola Johnson,
Hajiya Halita Aliyu, Alhaji Magaji Danbatta, Professor Buba
Bajoga, Dr.(Mrs) Sally Bolujoko, Mrs Mariam Uwais and Chief Kanu
Agabi.
Others are Dr Bamanga Tukur, Alhaji Ismaila Isa, Professor Shehu
Said Sarinwata, and Dr Simon Okolo. The Chairman, National
Economic Summit Group is also a member while the Permanent
Secretary (Special Duties) in the Office of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation would serve as Secretary.
